Scent of Home began in a season I did not expect, somewhere between the beautiful chaos of motherhood and a quiet pull to create something of my own.
Like a lot of moms, I was living in the blur of full days and full hearts, with very little space to slow down. I kept coming to my husband Luke with some new business idea every week, because I wanted something that was mine, something I could build from home right alongside raising our girls. One Christmas he surprised me with a candle making kit, and that was it. I fell in love with the whole process from the very first pour.
A cleaner kind of candle
Around that same time, our family was becoming more intentional about what we were bringing into our home. The food we ate, the products we cleaned with, all of it. It was never about being perfect. It was about being more aware.
I have always been drawn to scent. Some of my earliest memories are of walking through my grandfather's print shop, taking in the smell of the ink and paper and the hum of the machines. I did not know it then, but that was the beginning of a lifelong love of the way a scent can hold a memory and change how a whole room feels. Candles were a natural place for that love to land, the warmth they bring paired with a fragrance that makes a space feel like yours. But once I started looking closely at what was actually in most candles on the market, I knew I wanted to make something better. No paraffin. No zinc or nickel wicks. No phthalates. Just something I felt genuinely good burning around my kids and our pets.
From a hobby to a focused little line
The more I made, the more people wanted them, and what started as a hobby in my kitchen grew into a real business. That growth taught me a lot, and not always the easy way.
Early on I was so excited about everything that I completely spread myself thin. Between different scents, sizes, and colors, I had built over 300 options for people to choose from. It sounded fun in theory, but in practice it was overwhelming, for me to manage and for customers to sort through. So we did the hard work of simplifying. Today we offer seven year-round scents in two sizes, each with a matching reed diffuser, and we rotate two seasonal scents throughout the year. Reeling it in actually freed me up to keep creating, while making it so much easier for you to find something you love without feeling lost.

Who we make this for
What sets us apart is the intention behind everything we make. We are not trying to be the loudest candle in the room. We are for the person who is sensitive to strong scents, who has little ones or animals at home, or who is simply trying to be more thoughtful about what they bring into their space. And even if that is not you, we think you will still fall in love with what we make. At the end of the day, we just want to be the scent that makes someone stop when they walk through your front door.
Grateful for where this has gone
What began as a Christmas gift now sits on shelves at Scheels in Meridian and Billings, in boutiques around the Treasure Valley, and in the Idaho State Museum gift shop. That still amazes me. But the part I am proudest of is the community around it. The customers who come back season after season, the realtors who trust us with their client gifts, and the groups who join us for candle pouring classes and leave with something they made themselves.
Luke deserves so much of the credit. He is the reason this business exists, handling the operations, the wholesale logistics, and the website, all the behind-the-scenes work most people never see. We really do this together, even if I am the face of it. And our customers and local community here in the Treasure Valley have cheered us on from the very beginning. That support has meant everything.
Thank you for being here, and for letting us be a small part of your story. Whether you came for a candle, a class, or just to learn more about what we are building, we are so glad you are here.
