We're in BoiseDev! A Look at How Scent of Home Started

What a way to start the week. This morning, Scent of Home was featured in BoiseDev, and seeing our little candle company written up in the local news has been an amazing feeling. If you found your way here from that story, welcome. We are so glad you came to say hello.

Since a lot of new faces are stopping by, it felt like the right time to share a little about who we are and how a family in Kuna ended up hand-pouring candles for people all over the Treasure Valley and beyond.

It started at our kitchen counter

Scent of Home began with a single candle-making kit. What started as a fun project quickly turned into something we could not put down. There was something about filling the house with a scent we made ourselves that felt different from anything we could buy off a shelf. One candle became a few, a few became a small lineup, and before long we were pouring in real batches and sharing them with friends, family, and neighbors.

We are a family business in the truest sense. We handle the pouring, the testing, the labeling, and the packing ourselves, right here in Idaho. Every candle that leaves our hands is one we would happily burn in our own home, because most of the time, we already have.

Clean ingredients you can feel good about

One thing that has mattered to us from the very beginning is what goes into our candles. We pour with clean, soy-based wax and thoughtfully chosen fragrances, so you get a candle that burns beautifully without the things you do not want in the air around your family. We wanted candles that feel as good to light as they do to smell, and that has guided every choice we make.

We also care about scents that actually smell like what they promise. When we name a candle after a season or a feeling, we want it to deliver on that the moment you light it. No guessing, no letdown, just a scent that fills the room and makes your space feel like home.

Sun Kissed and Coral Reef have quickly become the two we keep reaching for, and they capture that bright, easy feeling of an Idaho summer perfectly. Beyond the candles themselves, one of our favorite things to do is host candle-pouring classes. It is a hands-on way to create your own custom scent and walk away with something you made yourself. We love these for date nights, girls' nights, birthdays, team gatherings, and any excuse to slow down and make something together. There is something special about watching people discover how much fun it is to build a scent from scratch.
